KILIMS
Fowah is a small delta town, cradled by a meander of the Lower Nile as it flows seawards. The weaving of kilim rugs and hangings in sheep’s wool has been carried on here for centuries, on beautiful wooden looms which the town’s artisans make and maintain themselves. Louis Barthélemy is currently working with some of these skilled weavers to forge a new audience for an endangered trade by bringing fresh inspirations and motifs to the ancient art of the Fowah kilim.
