SETCHU S/S 2025

SETCHU, meaning “compromise,” embodies the harmonious fusion of Japanese and Western cultures. Its founder, Satoshi Kuwata, a dear friend from our time at Central Saint Martins, invited me to create an artwork for the brand.

Earlier this year, drawing inspiration from our trip to Cairo, I designed a whimsical scene blending Eastern and Western influences for SETCHU. It portrays a group of samurai visiting the Sphinx of Giza at the end of the Edo period, capturing a playful cultural exchange between Japan and Egypt.

The design, realized in a striking X-ray Jacquard effect in black and silver, as well as in an all-over print, adorns shirts, flowing pants, and asymmetrical wrap dresses. It evokes an unexpected cultural crossover where Japan meets Egypt in a manga-inspired twist—featuring puzzled samurai and a bemused Sphinx.
